Robb Dussliere laughs at the thought of warning TV viewers to use condoms to avoid HIV. The topic pushed the boundaries of normal TV news.
In July, 1995, Robb Dussliere spoke to a class at Black Hawk College about his life with AIDS. His goal was to help people understand how to prevent contracting HIV.
This was Robb at his bravest — he spoke to groups like this even though he knew that one of them could have a cold or a virus that could kill him.
This episode also shows him cracking up in a way that still makes me laugh even 20 years later. He is talking about using condoms to avoid HIV, and he realizes it is a “bold” message for TV news at that time. But I used it anyway, and it might have made him trust me even more. It was also a clip that showed his sense of humor. I couldn’t resist.
Keep Robb’s legacy alive and donate a few dollars (or more) to the DeLaCerda House. You can help provide housing and support to homeless people who are struggling with HIV and AIDS. Go to the DeLaCerda House website and click on the “Donate” button on the right side of the page.
